It\u2019s been used for many years.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-caption thrv_wrapper tve_image_caption\">\n<p><iframe title=\"How to setup seedling in Hydroponic System (Kratky Method)\" width=\"710\" height=\"399\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/7XIugbGxHHw?start=3&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">It\u2019s what\u2019s known as passive hydroponics, meaning that you don\u2019t need electricity or oxygen pumps to use it.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Plant roots are 30% to 40% dipped into nutrient-rich water through net cups (please see the reference video). This is the most basic non-recirculating hydroponic system that does not require electricity, air pumps or any kind of water circulation pumps.<\/p>\n<p>Key to success with this system and all other systems is to check the pH level and EC and top-up the water\/nutrient when required. Also, always note the amount of top-up water.<\/p>\n<p>Make sure to change\/clean the container of nutrient-rich water when top-up water volume is become more than 50% of the total volume of nutrient-rich container.<\/p>\n<div class=\"thrv_wrapper tcb-flex-row tcb--cols--2\">\n<div class=\"tcb-flex-col tve_empty_dropzone\">\n<p class=\"tve_p_center\"><strong><span class=\"bold_text\">Benefits of Kratky System<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"thrv_wrapper thrv_bullets_shortcode\">\n<ul class=\"tve_ul tve_ul1 tve_green\">\n<li class=\"\">Truly \u201chands off\u201d if you set it up correctly<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Best for hydroponic beginners, beginner gardeners, and children<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"tcb-flex-col tve_empty_dropzone\">\n<p class=\"tve_p_center\"><strong><span class=\"bold_text\">Downsides of Kratky Systems<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"thrv_wrapper thrv_bullets_shortcode\">\n<ul class=\"tve_ul tve_ul4 tve_red\">\n<li class=\"\">Not good for commercial scale<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3 id=\"tab-con-6\" class=\"\">Deep Water Culture (DWC) Systems<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Deep water culture, which I will refer to as DWC from here on out, is hands-down the easiest type of hydro system to use.\u200b<\/p>\n<p>How a Deep Water Culture (DWC) system works.<\/p>\n<p>In a DWC system, you use a reservoir to hold a nutrient solution. The roots of your plants are suspended in that solution so they get a constant supply of water, oxygen, and nutrients.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Deep Water Culture Hydroponic System-Pakistan Hydroponics\" width=\"710\" height=\"399\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Nrt6dJt1qZg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>To oxygenate the water, you use an air pump with an air stone to pump bubbles into the nutrient solution. This prevents your roots from drowning in the water \u2014 a weird thing to think about, but it can (and does) happen to many beginner hydroponic gardeners.<\/p>\n<p>Your plants are typically housed in net pots that are placed in a foam board or into the top of the container that you\u2019re using for your reservoir. With some hydroponic growing media added into your net pots, they provide a home for the very beginning of your root system and plant stems.\u200b\u200b<\/p>\n<div class=\"thrv_wrapper tcb-flex-row tcb--cols--2\">\n<div class=\"tcb-flex-col tve_empty_dropzone\">\n<p class=\"tve_p_center\"><strong><span class=\"bold_text\">Benefits of Deep Water Culture<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"thrv_wrapper thrv_bullets_shortcode\">\n<ul class=\"tve_ul tve_ul1 tve_green\">\n<li class=\"\">Very inexpensive and easy to make at home<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Extremely low-maintenance<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Recirculating, so less wasted inputs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"tcb-flex-col tve_empty_dropzone\">\n<p class=\"tve_p_center\"><strong><span class=\"bold_text\">Downsides of Deep Water Culture<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"thrv_wrapper thrv_bullets_shortcode\">\n<ul class=\"tve_ul tve_ul4 tve_red\">\n<li class=\"\">Does not work well for large plants<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Does not work well for plants with long growing period<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"thrv_responsive_video thrv_wrapper\" data-overlay=\"0\" data-type=\"youtube\" data-embed_type=\"inline\" data-url=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/i3-9u-HtFG8\" data-embeded-url=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/i3-9u-HtFG8\" data-autoplay=\"0\" data-modestbranding=\"1\" data-controls=\"0\" data-showinfo=\"0\" data-rel=\"1\" data-fs=\"1\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"thrv_wrapper\">\n<hr class=\"tve_sep tve_sep1\">\n<\/div>\n<h3 id=\"tab-con-7\" class=\"\">Nutrient Film Technique (NFT) Systems<\/h3>\n<p>The Nutrient Film Technique, which I will refer to as NFT, is a popular commercial hydroponic system.\u200b<\/p>\n<p>The simplest way to set up a NFT system.<\/p>\n<p>Plants are grown in channels that have a nutrient solution pumping through them and constantly running along the bottom of the channel. When the solution reaches the end of the channel, it drops back into a main reservoir and is sent back to the beginning of the system again. This makes it a recirculating system, just like deep water culture.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Learn Hydroponic NFT System (Nutrient Film Technique)-Part 2 | Technique of Making NFT System |\" width=\"710\" height=\"399\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/DPuHKJjNhmM?start=22&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Unlike deep water culture, your plants roots are not completely submerged in a NFT system \u2014 hence the \u201cfilm\u201d part of the system\u2019s name.<\/p>\n<p>Plants are placed in these channels using net pots and growing medium and can be replaced or harvested on a one-by-one basis. \u200b<\/p>\n<div class=\"thrv_wrapper tcb-flex-row tcb--cols--2\">\n<div class=\"tcb-flex-col tve_empty_dropzone\">\n<p class=\"tve_p_center\"><strong><span class=\"bold_text\">Benefits of Nutrient Film Technique<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"thrv_wrapper thrv_bullets_shortcode\">\n<ul class=\"tve_ul tve_ul1 tve_green\">\n<li class=\"\">Minimal growing medium needed<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Recirculating system means less waste<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"tcb-flex-col tve_empty_dropzone\">\n<p class=\"tve_p_center\"><strong><span class=\"bold_text\">Downsides of Nutrient Film Technique<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"thrv_wrapper thrv_bullets_shortcode\">\n<ul class=\"tve_ul tve_ul4 tve_red\">\n<li class=\"\">Pump failure of any kind can completely ruin your crop<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Roots can become overgrown and clog the channels<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3 id=\"tab-con-8\" class=\"\">Ebb and Flow \/ Flood and Drain Systems<\/h3>\n<p>Ebb and Flow systems, which are also known by the name Flood and Drain, are a less-commonly seen system. But they\u2019re still quite effective and can be the best choice depending on your situation.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike the previous two hydro systems we have covered, an ebb and flow system does not expose the roots of your plants to nutrient solution on a constant basis.<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/IXJuNlpkNDU\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Instead, you grow in a tray filled with a growing medium. The tray is \u201cflooded\u201d with your nutrient solution a few times per day, depending on factors like:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The size of your plants<\/li>\n<li>The water requirement of your plants<\/li>\n<li>The air temperature<\/li>\n<li>Where your plants are in their growth cycle<\/li>\n<li>\u2026And many more<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Flooding is accomplished by using a reservoir below the tray, a water pump, and a timer to schedule the flooding cycle.<\/p>\n<p>After the tray is flooded, gravity drains the solution back down into the reservoir, where it is being oxygenated by an air pump and air stone. It sits there waiting for the next flood cycle, and the process goes on.<\/p>\n<p>Hydroponic growers choose ebb and flow systems for their flexibility. Most of them will fill the tray with a growing medium of their choice and also add net pots to organize their plants and control the roots a bit more.<\/p>\n<div class=\"thrv_wrapper tcb-flex-row tcb--cols--2\">\n<div class=\"tcb-flex-col tve_empty_dropzone\">\n<p class=\"tve_p_center\"><strong><span class=\"bold_text\">Benefits of Ebb and Flow<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"thrv_wrapper thrv_bullets_shortcode\">\n<ul class=\"tve_ul tve_ul1 tve_green\">\n<li class=\"\">Efficient use of water and energy<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Highly customizable to your specific needs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"tcb-flex-col tve_empty_dropzone\">\n<p class=\"tve_p_center\"><strong><span class=\"bold_text\">Downsides of Ebb and Flow<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"thrv_wrapper thrv_bullets_shortcode\">\n<ul class=\"tve_ul tve_ul4 tve_red\">\n<li class=\"\">Roots can dry out quickly if environmental conditions are off or the pump or timer fails<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Uses a lot of growing medium<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3 id=\"tab-con-9\" class=\"\">Aeroponics Systems<\/h3>\n<p>Aeroponic systems are the most \u201chigh-tech\u201d hydroponic setups that you can build. But they\u2019re not that complex once you understand how they work.\u200b<\/p>\n<p>A simple aeroponic system you can build at home.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"How to build\/design Aeroponic System-Aeroponic System in Pakistan (URDU\/HINDI)\" width=\"710\" height=\"399\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/EpT1sU0X4F8?start=7&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>An aeroponic system is similar to a NFT system in that the roots are mostly suspended in air. The difference is that an aeroponic system achieves this by misting the root zone with a nutrient solution constantly instead of running a thin film of nutrient solution along a channel.<\/p>\n<p>Some growers prefer to mist on a cycle like an ebb and flow system, but the cycle is much shorter, typically only waiting a few minutes between each misting. It\u2019s also possible to mist on a continual basis and use a finer sprayer to ensure more oxygen gets to the root zone.<\/p>\n<p>Aeroponic systems have been shown to grow plants even quicker than some of the simpler systems like deep water culture, but this has not been verified to be true in all cases. This is because they\u2019re simple to operate a a large scale, but slightly overkill for a smaller garden.
